How to reach us

The Drift Desk is the only intake point for Chalk Ledger walk-ins and written requests. We do not operate web forms, chat widgets, or social direct-message intake — every enquiry arrives by phone during hours, by email at any time, or in person at the reading room table. Phone calls are answered for orientation and hours; substantive research requests should be emailed so we can reply with shelf codes and expected timing in writing.

Walk-ins should bring identification and a short written description of the thread you are pursuing, as explained in the Reading Room letter. If the desk is filing off-site — noted on a chalk board in the ground-floor lobby — email [email protected] and the duty officer listed in the auto-reply will confirm the next available intake slot.

Privacy-related requests go to [email protected]. Legal notices and institutional terms questions may copy [email protected] for coordination. We aim to acknowledge email within two working days; complex drift or cross-shelf work receives a timing quote rather than an immediate folio pull.
